Allison Janney took birth in the family of Macy, a former actress and homemaker and Jervis Spencer Janney, a real estate developer and jazz musician. She has two siblings Jay and Hal. Allison joined The Miami valley School and became the distinguished alumna during the year 2004. She also joined The Hotchkiss School in Connecticut and later, she enrolled in Kenyon College. She joined the Neighborhood Playhouse and Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in order to study drama.

She appeared as Vi Kaminski on ‘As the World Turns’. In 1994, she was seen in ‘Law & Order’ portraying a reluctant witness. Her notable appearances during 1990 are on American Beauty, The Object of My Affection, Big Night, The Impostors, Drop Dead Gorgeous, The Ice Storm, Primary Colors, 10 Things I Hate about You, and Private Parts, and during 2000s films Nurse Betty, The Hours, The Chumscrubber, How to Deal, and Winter Solstice etc. She was also a part of Finding Nemo, an animated movie.
