Niece of actress Christine Ebersole, Janel Moloney took birth in Woodland Hills, California and attended the acting conservatory at SUNY Purchase. Janel supported John Kerry during his presidential campaign in 2004 and was seen supporting him publicly.

She made guest appearances on ‘ER’, ‘Sports Night’, ‘The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.’, ‘Murder, She Wrote’ etc. In ‘The West Wing’, she appeared as Donna Moss, Josh Lyman’s assistant. She was initially brought in like a guest star but the chemistry between her and Josh led her to be a main character from second season onwards. In 2002 and 2004, she received two Emmy nominations as the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama.
